Survey Number 1

What's Important to La Mesa Residents

Our first survey asked, what attracted you to La Mesa? Kim Jones says, “the quaint neighborhood, (and) value of housing”. Julie M. came in 1997, while attending SDSU, and found La Mesa “nice and affordable”. Rachel L. Nelson likes “the larger lots, trees, charming homes, and history…”. Dennis J. Wahl and his wife bought their first home in 1977; “we like the community, and it is close to our jobs”. And Nancy Clement says “I love the small town charm, the ‘know your neighbors’ feeling that represents the spirit of La Mesa”. These thoughtful comments typify the 16 written responses submitted; an emphasis on small town feeling, proximity to jobs and recreation, and those wonderful neighborhoods!

The number of VERY IMPORTANT votes you submitted for each category of city services is shown in the bar graph. La Mesans care about safety first, with Police and Fire concerns at #1 and #3. You also are clearly aware that La Mesa is an older, built-out city with redevelopment needs (#2 and #4), and that we need public works to support safety and property values (#5 and #6).

What’s next? How to pay for what we value! Take Survey #2 (left).
